Resting boosts lithium-metal battery cells

Researchers have found a key way to extend the life of next-generation lithium-metal batteries, writes Nick Flaherty.
Lithium metal cells can double the range of EVs on a single charge and this is a crucial technology for solid-state cells. The researchers at Stanford University found a low-cost approach, which was to simply drain the battery and let it rest for several hours. This restored battery capacity and boosted overall performance. Read more…

INFICON’s ELT Vmax enables individual leak testing for mass-produced EV battery cells

INFICON, a manufacturer of leak testing solutions, introduces the ELT Vmax—a leak detector specifically designed for integration into leak testing systems for the industrial high-speed mass production of lithium-ion and sodium-ion battery cells. The ELT Vmax tests the leak tightness of all battery cells filled with liquid electrolyte—lithium-ion or sodium-ion—in all formats, including prismatic, round… Read more…

Road test reveals how much energy can EVs really recuperate

ArenaEV
Electric vehicles aren’t just a cleaner mode of transport; they offer a smarter way to manage energy with a unique feature called recuperation. This process allows EVs to cleverly reclaim energy, otherwise normally lost as heat during braking. But how much energy is actually recovered, and how does this technology impact overall efficiency? The German ADAC decided it was time… Read more…
