Xerotech battery system

Unlike road EVs, off-highway vehicles need different battery solutions but in only small batches. Rory Jackson looks at how this company addresses that For on-highway vehicles, electrification is now seen as the way to go, but the future for electrified off-highway ones such as construction dozers, mining trucks and so on is less clear.
Off-highway mobile machines are often larger than the biggest on-road trucks, and vary widely in their size, power, cost, environmental harshness, and weight. For example, there are 0.5 t mini-excavators and 400 t haul trucks, and if you include non-terrestrial vehicles, there are 500 t aircraft and 55,000 t container ships in need of electrification. They are also usually supplied in tens of units or even single ones, even to major industrial operators. Read more…

New Renault Twingo EV concept is official with incredible efficiency

ArenaEV
Just as anticipated in a report from a few hours ago, today Renault has unveiled its new affordable electric city car, and, unsurprisingly, it’s called Twingo. This isn’t going to be the first electric Twingo – there was another one launched in 2020. The new Twingo EV is promised to cost “under €20,000” and come with incredible efficiency – a consumption of only 10 kWh per 100km has been mentioned. And that’s just about the only detail that we know about the next Twingo EV – aside from the pictures showing the concept, which you can see above and below. The Twingo EV will be the… Read more…

HiPhi A takes on Tesla and Lucid’s most powerful EVs

ArenaEV
China’s HiPhi is making waves with its newest offering, dubbed HiPhi A. Now, before we proceed any further, we need to address the electric elephant in the room – the A is the Z. Although the company touts it as a brand-new model, the A is essentially a high-performance version of the HiPhi Z electric sedan. The company claims it is actually a hypercar and looking at the specification, we begin to understand why it’s no longer called the Z. The HiPhi A emerges as a direct challenger to established names like Tesla Model S Plaid, Lucid Air Sapphire, or the Zeekr 001 FR. Powering the… Read more…

Tesla quietly backtracks on Cybertruck resale contract clause

ArenaEV
A few days ago it became clear that Tesla has a clause in place, forbidding new Cybertruck owners from reselling the EV within the first year. It seems Tesla has now removed the clause from the Cybertruck’s pre-order agreement. It’s not clear whether Tesla has changed its mind, if the clause will be kept out of the agreement, or if the clause will return in some new form. Tesla isn’t the only carmaker to implement such a clause. Ferrari has a one-year no-reselling clause, while Porsche’s 911 S/T is lease-only for the first year. The original clause was put in place to prevent… Read more…
