Global EV sales hit record in September, Tesla and BYD dominate

EV sales kept climbing in September, nearly 9.5 million plug-in models have found their new owners in 2023 so far, of which over 6.5 million are BEVs. That’s around 16% of all cars sold in 2023 and 12% share for the BEVs alone. The data comes from EV-Volumes by way of Jose Pontes. September saw a record 1,291,077 new passenger plug-in cars sold, of which the majority – 890,000 – were EVs. Breaking down the total numbers by individual models, it’s no surprise that Tesla Model Y dominates with 121,258 sales in September. Polestar’s Q3 report shows sharp increase in sales, but mounting losses

Polestar’s Q3 report reveals the company is both accelerating and hitting speed bumps. The company’s third quarter of 2023 tells a story of growth, challenge, and strategic reorientation. Polestar’s revenue soared to €571 million, a robust 41% year-on-year increase. Volvo inks deal for enormous, Tesla-style giga press for its next-gen EVs


Following in Telsa’s footsteps, Volvo has just signed a contract with Italian giga press maker IDRA to install two of its largest presses at a new site in Slovakia. The giga presses – what will likely be a reconfigured version of the same Giga Press 9,000 that is making Telsa’s Cybertruck – are the world’s largest, the size of a small house and producing a clamping force of more than 9,000 tons. Autocraft takes us through its battery repair process


Autocraft EV Solutions now offers its highly automated and guided Revive battery repair and remanufacture system in service in both static and mobile versions (writes Peter Donaldson). We recently took the chance to discuss the system with Dr Sara Ridley, engineering & quality director of Autocraft Solutions Group, who has seen it through its development and early deployment.
Dr Ridley explained what happens when a dealer needs a replacement for a battery in a customer’s car. “They log on to their web portal, which patches them through to ours. They tell us which battery they have a problem with, and we dispatch a replacement with all the packaging and paperwork they need,” she says. More…
