Researchers at Samsung have developed a design for a liquid-cooled thermal management system (TMS) for large lithium-ion battery packs (writes Nick Flaherty).
They first built a coupled 3D electrochemical/thermal model of a battery pack that avoids the use of materials such as graphene. Simulation showed that it is the contact resistance that has the greatest impact on the pack’s thermal performance, and the temperature performance across the pack could be determined from a single cell. XPeng announced the launch of two new variants of its flagship sedan, the P7i. These new versions, named the P7i 550 Pro and P7i 550 Max, come with a significant reduction in asking price enabled by new battery chemistry. XPeng’s new P7i come with lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery packs. Cheaper than traditional lithium-ion ternary battery packs, yet still offer decent density and reliable performance.
